Goal

This document provides the command to clear the internal logs in the array (aka Major Event Log or MEL). Usually you do not need to clear these logs, which are in a circular buffer (8,192 events in length) automatically managed by the array firmware. However, there might be special situations that require you to clear them. For example when you want to perform a firmware upgrade from 06.xx to 07.xx on arrays supporting this transition, you may encounter situations that require you to clear these logs before proceeding with the upgrade.

Solution

Important: It is strongly suggested to collect a supportdata from your array before clearing the array internal logs. This supportdata will include these logs that could eventually be necessary in future troubleshooting. Please refer to <Document 1002514.1> Collecting Sun Storage Common Array Manager Support Data for Arrays.

Here are the path for the command lines used in the procedure below:

`sscs` is under:
Solaris: /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/
Linux: /opt/sun/cam/bin/
Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\bin

`service` is under:
Solaris: /opt/SUNWsefms/bin/
Linux:  /opt/sun/cam/private/fms/bin/
Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\Component\fms\bin\

  1. List all the registered arrays in order to obtain the name you need for next step:

    # sscs list array

  2. Clear the logs:

    # service -d <arrayname> -c reset -t mel
