WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

- Data backup not required but recommended as a precaution.
- Orderly shutdown of applications, then the OS and power down of server.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare for servicing:

a. Power off the server module.

b. Remove the server module from the chassis and lay it flat, cover side up, on an anti-static mat.

Caution - After removing the server from the chassis insert a filler panel into an empty slot to reduce the possibility of a system shutdown.

c. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.

d. Remove the top cover.

2. To remove faulty DIMM,

a. Identify the location of the faulty DIMM.  To identify a faulty DIMM, press and hold the blue Fault Remind button on the motherboard (SW3001).  (LED is off: DIMM is operating properly, LED is on (amber): DIMM is faulty and should be replaced.)

b. Rotate both DIMM slot ejectors outward.

Caution – If you are not immediately inserting a replacement DIMM into the empty DIMM socket, you should insert a DIMM filler panel in the socket.

3. To install a DIMM:

a. Determine the DIMM socket location to populate.

Note – If the DIMM socket contains a filler panel, you will need to remove the DIMM filler panel prior to installing a DIMM into the DIMM socket.

b. Ensure that the ejector lever at each end of the memory socket are fully open (rotated outward) to accept the new DIMM.

c. Align the DIMM notch to the DIMM connector key.

d. Using both thumbs, press the DIMM straight down into the DIMM connector slot until both ejector levers close.

e. Install the cover on the server.

f. Reinsert the server module in the chassis slot.
