Goal

How to remove and replace a System (CMOS) Battery in a Sun Blade X4-2B Server Module.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Caution – Removing the system battery will clear the CMOS and return the BIOS settings to their factory defaults. The BIOS will automatically notify you of this change the next time you boot the system.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Prepare the server for service.

a. Power off the server module.

b. Remove the server module from the chassis and lay it flat, cover side up, on an anti-static mat.

Caution - After removing the server from the chassis insert a filler panel into an empty slot to reduce the possibility of a system shutdown.

c. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.

d. Remove the top cover.

To remove and install the system battery:

a. Using your fingers, unlatch the battery from the socket by gently pushing the top edge of the battery away from the
battery holder.

b. Lift the battery up and out of the socket.

c. Locate the replacement system battery, then insert the battery into the socket with the positive (+) side of the battery facing toward the server module side wall.

Install the cover on the server.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot up system and verify full functionality.
