How to remove and replace a RAID Expansion Module (REM) in a Sun Blade X4-2B Server Module.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Data backup not required, but recommended as a precaution.
Orderly shutdown of applications.
Shutdown of OS and power down of server.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Prepare the server for service:

a. Power off the server module.

b. Remove the server module from the chassis and lay it flat cover side up on an anti-static mat.

Caution - After removing the server from the chassis insert a filler panel into an empty slot to reduce the possibility of a system shutdown.

c. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.

d. Remove the top cover.

Install a new REM,

Close the REM latch downwards.

Locate the REM support bracket on the motherboard, and slide the REM card at an angle under the flanges into the support bracket, then press the module carefully into the connector.

To install the REM card, gently push down on the connector end of the card until the card is fully seated under the REM card retaining spring. An audible click occurs when the spring secures the card.

Replace an existing REM:

Lift the REM latch upwards.

Remove the existing REM card by pulling the REM card out at an angle away from the support bracket.

Transfer the REM card cache battery from the old REM to the new replacement REM.

Close the REM latch downwards.

Slide the new REM card at an angle under the flanges into the support bracket, then press it carefully into the connector.

Install the cover on the server.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
