Goal
The goal of this document is to assist the Field Engineer to replace the battery in an Infiniband Switch.
NOTE: TSC Engineer dispatching this Task, please refer to following Document for Communications to provide to Customer, on preparing for FE visit:
How to prepare an Infiniband Switch for a Field Engineer Visit for servicing or replacing. (DocID 1636229.1)
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
TIME ESTIMATE: 2 Hours
TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
The battery voltage is incorrect.
WARNING low VBAT = 0.61 V (Or some value less than 3.10 V)
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
If the switch is not part of an engineered system, the customer needs to have the switch powered down and un-cabled so it can be serviced.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
If the switch is part of an engineered system, follow the steps in the appropriate document to remove the switch from the rack:
Sun Datacenter InfiniBand Switch 36: 1341658.1
Sun Network QDR InfiniBand Gateway Switch: 1383773.1
Once the switch is removed from the rack, follow these steps to replace the battery:
1. Use a No. 1 Phillips screwdriver to remove the eight screws that secure the C-shaped brackets at the rear sides of the switch chassis.

2. Remove the eight screws that secure the long front brackets at the front sides of the switch chassis.
3. Remove the 16 screws that secure the top cover to the chassis.
There are five screws on each side and six screws across the top front of the cover.

4. Slide the cover forward and lift it off.
5. Depress the clip that retains the battery and release the battery from the main board.

6. Check the condition of the solder joint as described in Doc ID 1563586.1

7. Properly dispose of the old battery.
8. Unwrap the replacement battery from its antistatic packaging.
9. Install the replacement battery into the main board with the + side up.

10. Orient the cover over the chassis and lower it in to place.
11. Slide the cover rearward so that it engages at the rear panel.
Ensure that the screw holes in the cover align with the holes in the chassis.

12. Use a No. 1 Phillips screwdriver to install the 16 screws that secure the cover to
the chassis.
13. Use eight screws to attach the two long front brackets to the front sides of the chassis.

14. Use eight screws to attach the two C-shaped brackets to the rear sides of the chassis.
If the switch is part of an engineered system, follow the steps in the appropriate document to return the switch to service:
Sun Datacenter InfiniBand Switch 36: 1341658.1
Sun Network QDR InfiniBand Gateway Switch: 1383773.1
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
The Field Engineer should remain on site until the customer has verified the battery replacement has resolved the issue.
The following steps should be run and verified to ensure the Battery replacement was successful:
# env_test
And ensure the following two states:
Measured VBAT = 3.10 V
&
Environment test PASSED
Check Date, Time, & Timezone setting on the switch and correct if needed:
-> show /SP/clock (Verify the current setting)
If Date, Time, & Timezone needs to be corrected:
-> set /SP/clock timezone=<zone identifier>
-> set /SP/clock datetime=MMddHHmmCCyy
-> show /SP/clock (Verify the new setting displays correctly)
PARTS NOTE:
The CR2032 battery needs to be procured from a local source.
