Dismount: Dismount failed, Library failure.
Have rebooted and power cycled the drive but Tape is still stuck. All dismount commands to remove stuck tape failed.

How to Remove and Replace a Tape Drive Fan Assembly from 9840/ T10000 Drive Tray in SL8500 / SL3000 Library.
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Knowledge of the SL8500 library, STK and OEM Tape drives.
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
Need to replace a defective FAN ASSEMBLY in drive tray from the library.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
The drive needs to be offline to the hardware system and software application.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Refer to the SL8500 Service Manual for complete instructions on how to remove and replace the drive tray assembly.

The Action Plan steps listed below apply to T10000, 9840, 9940, LTO (IBM and HP) drives. Additional details may be called out for a specific drive type, when applicable.
DRIVE TRAY REMOVAL / FAN DE-INSTALLATION:
1. Be sure there is no active input/output I/O at the subject drive to/from host and the drive is out of service.
Put drive OFFLINE to SL8500 from SL Console.
2. Open the library rear doors.
3. Disconnect the host interface cable from the tray's rear panel.
4. Depress the power switch. The green LED will flash while the unit is power down. Wait until the LED is
solid red before pulling out the drive tray.
5. Press the tray latch lever release tab then rotate the lever upward into the detent position (Unlatched).
6. Pull the tray by the handle straight out of the library drive bay and place it on a suitable work surface.
7. RemoveT10 to remove the tray top cover.
8. Slide the top cover forward and lift it up from the drive tray.
9. Disconnect all cables from tray fan: use the following link for part image and location within the drive tray:

10.Remove screws to fan assembly and remove from tray.
DRIVE TRAY FAN ASSEMBLY RE-INSTALLATION / REASSEMBLY:
1. Install new replacement fan assmebly.
2. Reconnect cable to tray fan.
3. Reposition tray cover and secure T10 screws.
4. Make sure the tray latch lever is in the upward (detent) position.
5. Slide the drive tray fully into the library drive bay to seat the tray connector.
6. Rotate the tray latch lever downward until it locks.
(Once drive/tray is installed into the library, the drive will automatically power up)
Wait until drive is completely initialized until you plug host interface cable (to allow new dynamic WWN
to be set in drive).
7. Connect host interface cable to the tray interface port.
8. Use SL Console to verify the properties for the drive trays in the replaced drive array.
9. Use SL Console to load a diagnostic cartridge into the replaced drive.
10. Inform the library operator that the replaced drive tray is available.
11. Close the library rear doors.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Bring drive back online to the system hardware and software application. Verify functionality with customer.
