DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: T10000 tape drive knowledge.
   TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Tape drive needs to have a firmware upgrade.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: All jobs need to be stopped to the drive and drive needs to be offline.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Firmware Update Information

- T10000D drive microcode is loaded from a directory containing several files.

- VOP 2.0.1.7 or higher supports firmware downloading from a directory.

      >9840/T10000 - Where to Acquire Virtual Operation Panel (VOP) Application (Doc ID 1014070.1)

- The 4 FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Array) can each have their firmware upgraded.  It is typical to have up to 5 files to upload for a firmware update.

- You should always install all files provided in the mcode zip folder in the microcode update file.

- The drive will only load those files that are needed.

-Loading the 5 files (Functional code and the 4 FPGA firmware updates) can take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Process for updating T10000D drive firmware:

   - Unzip the mcode file.

   - Make a new directory and pull all of the firmware update (.abin) files into that directory.

   - Bring up VOP:

   - Select Configure > Firmware Update From Directory.

   - Navigate to the directory and select the files.

   - Click Ok.

   - Wait until the drive comes back online. This can take 20 to 30 minutes per drive.

Note:

It is recommended to set up the account to use Multi Drive VOP for updating firmware so that you can update many drives at once.  This involves building a service network and giving each drive a static IP.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
