I understand that the drives are encryption capable, however I read someplace that IBM LTO-5 drives though capable, IBM LTO5 still requires a separate Belisarius card to communicate with OKM.
HAC who has an existing Oracle customer running SL500 with LTO-4 drives. There is a need now to encrypt the data written to the drives. The customer is currently not willing to upgrade his current drives/ library and wants to use encryption on the existing hardware.

This requirement is a fit for OKM. However, I have a query.
How does one confirm that the LTO-4 already installed in the library supports encryption ?

The details of the Drive are:
Drive: IBM ULTRIUM TD-4
Firmware : 94D7

Goal

IBM LTO - LTO Encryption Support

Solution

IBM LTO5 and LTO6 drives all ship with the Belisarius card, the IBM LTO4 does not.  Should there be a need to upgrade the IBM LTO4 drive for encryption, an Encryption Upgrade Kit would be required so the drive can be used with the OKM Encryption Appliance.

Conversion Bill 003-5165-01 for the upgrade kit for drives already installed.

XIBLTO4EFCUPL500-N is the Marketing Part Number for the kit.

IBM LTO4 FC encryption drive upgrade kit:

■ Serial to Ethernet interface card, cabling, drive tray back-plate.   <-----(Bel card is the interface card)

■ Need serial# of existing drive tray.

■ RoHS compliant

Part number information for a defective Bel card is found here:
