Goal

Action plan to replace the 7310/7410 heads with 7320/7420.

We are planning to retain all the existing configurations (including data in both pools).

1: Can we do the activity in takeover mode or do we need a complete shutdown?
2: What is the back out plan in case, for any reason, the replacement did not succeed?

Solution

A complete shutdown will be required.

To minimize downtime, you can ensure that the new heads are running the same Appliance Firmware Release as your existing 7310/7410.

Configure the new 7320/7420.

When you are ready to move the storage tray(s) over, perform the following:

Unconfigure the storage pool(s) on 7310/7410, cable up the storage on 7320/7420 and import the pools.

NOTE: You cannot connect one 7320/7420 to the 7310/7410 and do the takeover style to upgrade the heads.

The back out plan is to re-cable the storage tray back to the original 7310/7410 and import the pools.
