Goal
Replace the rear fan tray of a Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS
Solution
If the Sun StorageTek 5320 NAS reports the (I/O Fan) System fan has failed or the I/O Fan was observed as being CRITICAL, this indicates that the rear fan tray is faulty and needs to be replaced.
A.K.A: Rear fan tray, I/O Fan, System fan, blower tray.
Replacing the Rear Fan Tray
Perform the following steps to remove and replace the rear fan tray (blower tray).
There is one supported blower tray, part number 541-0645. Note: Supported part numbers are subject to change.
1. When looking from the back of the server, the rear fan tray is at the top left.
Working from the back of the server, unfasten the two captive thumbscrews on the face of the rear fan tray.
The internal system software designation of the rear fan tray is I/O FAN.
The rear fan tray has one fault LED on its face, indicating the following:
Off: The fan tray is operating normally.
On (amber): The fan tray is faulty and must be replaced.
2. Remove the rear fan tray from the chassis.
The fan tray cable connector disengages from the internal connector on the chassis
3. Reverse the above steps to install a replacement rear fan tray. Make sure the metal guides on the fan tray sides engage the plastic rails inside the chassis bay evenly.
