DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1-CRU

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, the customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS.  Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.

A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the server for service.

  1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
  2. Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
  3. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.
  4. Remove the top cover.

2. Locate and Remove the Battery.

  1. The system battery is a 3V Lithium Coin Cell Battery (CR2032 or BR2032) which is mounted in a vertical holder on the system board directly behind PCIe slot 5.
  2. Remove the battery from the battery holder by pulling back on the metal tab holding it in place and sliding the battery up and out of the battery holder.

3. Install the Replacement Battery.

  1. Unpackage the replacement battery.
  2. Press the new battery into the battery holder with the positive side (+) facing away from the metal tab that holds it in place.

4. Return the Server to operation and adjust the needed time/date and BIOS settings.

  1. Replace the top cover
  2. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
  3. Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
  4. Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed.
  5. Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
  6. Enter the BIOS Setup Utility by pressing the F2 button when the initial BIOS screen is displayed (there will be a prompt to “Press F2 to run Setup” which will be replaced by “Entering Setup” when the F2 key press is sensed)
  7. Update the system time and date from the BIOS MAIN menu screen.
  8. If the Exalytics Server has the F40 flash cards installed then it is required to disable the option ROM for slot 2 (this can be done for servers without F40 cards also if wanted). use the arrow keys to navigate to the PCIPnP Menu.
  9. In the PCIPnP Menu screen navigate down to the “PCI-E Slot 2 Option ROM:” line, hit Enter and select “Disabled” and then hit Enter again.
  10. Then navigate to the “Exit” tab and select “Save Changes and Exit” hit enter and select OK when asked to confirm that you want to Save Configuration changes and exit setup.
  11. If the service processor is configured to synchronize with a network time server using the Network Time Protocol (NTP), the Oracle ILOM clock will be reset as soon as the server is powered on and connected to the network. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  12. If the service processor is not configured to use NTP, you must reset the Oracle ILOM clock using the Oracle ILOM CLI or the web interface.
  13. Then allow the system to boot and verify that the system comes up properly.
