GoalDefine the IU (Information Unit) Maximum Exchange parameter that is used for various FICON tape devices. Solution9840B, 9840C, 9840D, and some early T10000A devices drives use a 2 Gig interface. The IU exchange limit for these devices is 32. T10000B and T10000C are 4 Gig devices. The IU exchange limit for these devices is 64. Note - 1 Gig devices are set to 16.
This may come in as a question when a customer wants to upgrade to a processor that can handle more that 32 open exchanges and they have a 2 GB capable device such as a 9840B. EC12 processors for example can handle 64 open exchanges. For example if they have 9840B drives when the drive first connects on the FICON interface it will tell the channel how many open exchanges it can handle (32 in this case) and the channel will know to run only 32 open exchanges to this device. There is no configuration at the host or drive end that is needed to set up the number of open exchange thresholds.
