Applies to:

Goal

This document describes how to migrate Virtual Machines from third party virtualization software (such as RedHat KVM, VMWare) to Oracle VM

Solution

1) Export the Virtual Machines in the third party virtualization software as Open Virtualization Format (.OVA or .OVF)

2) Place this .OVA or .OVF file in a location accessible from Oracle VM Manager host computer using either of these protocols: HTTP, HTTPS or FTP.

3) Go to Oracle VM Manager console enter the Repositories tab in the management pane and open the Assemblies

4) Click Import to open the Import Assembly dialog box and enter the URL to .OVA or .OVF file you want to import.

5) Click OK to import the assembly file. When the import is complete, the assembly file appears in the table. The virtual machines contained in the assembly are listed in the Assembly Virtual Machines pane.

6) Select the assembly and click to Create Template icon in the Assemblies sub-tab to create a template for a virtual machine in the assembly

Note:

Please uninstall/erase third party PV drivers (PV Storage Host Adapter Driver and PV Network Device Driver), e.g. VMware Tools of VMware, Integration Services of Microsoft, Xen-tools of Citrix, etc. before exporting VMs. Otherwise VMs might boot into BSOD (Windows OS) or Panic (Linux OS) after importing into Oracle VM and start.

"Assemblies" is rephrased as "Virtual Appliances" from Oracle VM version 3.4.1.
