Goal

In OPS-Center the following message is reported:

HARDWARE FAULT: Component error detected. Component Name: /SYS/ACPI

What does this error mean & What consequences does it have?

Solution

This /SYS/ACPI error is a badly phrased message reported by Ops Center.

You will see this message every time a node is rebooted and is not an indication of a real hardware fault. In the console logs you will probably  see a number of reboots that all appear to be manual clean shutdown reboots.

So, when you see this error you need to check the causes of the reboots to find if they were normal expected reboots or unexpected due to some other issues.

In the majority of cases they will just be normal manual reboots. However, if you discover that a reboot was unexpected or there was an unexpected or unexplainable reset of a node, then this might be a time to check for other issues which may be needed further investigation. In that case, please open Service Request with Oracle Customer Support.
