Goal

A monitor trace will capture important information for analysis when you start the trace and recreate the issue.

Solution

How to  start a monitor trace from SL Console on SL500, SL3000, or SL8500:

- To start the monitor trace you would log into SLC and Click on Tools at the top left.
- From the drop down menu select Monitors.
- Expand the Permanent Monitors folder and highlight All.
- At the top right of the tool bar click Open. Drag the lower right corner of the pop up window to expand.
- Click Spool File from this pop up window and select Start Spooling.
- Recreate the issue. Once the recreation of the issue has completed click Spool File again and select Stop Spooling.
- You will be prompted on where to save the file. Save the file and attach it to the SR for analysis.

Note: Like all logs generated on the SL Console of the library itself you cannot save the file. The same goes for generating a Spool File. It can be done on the Library Console but to save the file you will need to perform the above actions from a desktop version SLC.

Note: Before closing out of the Monitor Trace be sure to click the Monitor tab next to Spool File and select Stop.
