Goal

This document describes the procedures to enable capacity on demand features for Exalytics In-Memory Machine, Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Exadata Database Machine, and SPARC SuperCluster.

Solution

The capacity on demand features for Exalytics In-Memory Machine, Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Exadata Database Machine, and SPARC SuperCluster enable the ability to change the number of CPU cores in use on the system as part of the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering. Each Engineered System has its own utility for enabling and disabling the capacity on demand features. While some of the utilities may have the same name, they are not interchangable between systems.

Note that capacity on demand as referenced in this note has no technical relationship to the feature by the same name from Sun Solaris or Sun hardware. This note describes the capacity on demand features recently added to each of the Engineered Systems described herein.

Exalytics In-Memory Machine

Download and follow the <Attachment 1550061.1:EXALYTICS_COD_README> to use the capacity on demand features on Exalytics.

Exalogic Elastic Cloud

Note that capacity on demand is supported starting with Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software version 2.0.3+ on Linux and 2.0.4 on Solaris. This feature is only available on Exalogic Elastic Cloud X3-2 and later hardware.

Download the <Attachment 1550061.1:EXALOGIC_COD_ZIPFILE>, unpack it in a temporary directory and follow instructions in the readme-cod-exalogic.txt found inside to use the capacity on demand features on Exalogic.

Exadata Database Machine

Note that the capacity on demand feature is only supported on Exadata Database Machine X3 and later hardware (currently X3-2 and X3-8 systems). It is not available on older hardware platforms regardless of the software versions.

Download the <Attachment 1550061.1:EXADATA_COD_ZIPFILE>, unpack it in a temporary directory and follow instructions in the readme-cod-exadata.txt found inside to use the capacity on demand features on Exadata.

SPARC SuperCluster

Download the <Attachment 1550061.1:SSC_COD_ZIPFILE>, unpack it in a temporary directory and follow instructions in the readme-cod-exalogic.txt found inside to use the capacity on demand features on Exalogic.
