In this Document
Applies to:SPARC T4-1 - Version Not Applicable and laterSPARC T3-1 - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A] Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) GoalHow to Replace a T3-1 ot T4-1 PCI/HBA Card *********************************************************** To report errors or request improvements on this procedure please Add a Comment on Doc ID: 1549516.1 *********************************************************** SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes Task Complexity: 0 REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: PCI/HBA card failure WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. System needs to be shutdown by customer. WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED: Caution: This procedure involves handling circuit boards that are extremely sensitive to static electricity. Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge Remove a PCIe or XAUI Card 1. Power off the server 2. Disconnect all power cables 3. Disconnect any data cables connected to the HBA being serviced 4. Extend the server to the maintenance position. Install a PCIe or XAUI Card NOTE: Some optional I/O cards are restricted to specific I/O slots to meet system cooling requirements. Other I/O cards provide better performance when installed in particular slots. Refer to PCIe Slot Usage Rules for Certain I/O Cards on T3-1 and T4-1 for these slot requirements and recommendations. 1. Power off the server 2. Disconnect all power cables 3. Extend the server to the maintenance position. 5. Locate the proper PCIe/XAUI slot for the card you are replacing. 6. Remove the PCIe/XAUI riser 7. If a PCIe filler panel is installed, remove it. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system: 1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared. 2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results: * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults. * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required 3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation. NOTE: Customer might need to consult the PCI/HBA specific manual for procedure to bring the card into operation. Replacement Fiber Channel HBA have different WWN that the original card, zoning and LUN masking setting may need to be updated PARTS NOTE: https://support.oracle.com/handbook_private/Systems/SPARC_T3_1/components.html https://support.oracle.com/handbook_private/Systems/SPARC_T4_1/components.html
