Time Estimate: 60 minutes
Task Complexity: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: replace a faulty SPARC T3-4 or T4-4 Rear Chassis SubAssembly

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The server must be fully shut down and the power cords disconnected.

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

Remove the Rear Chassis Assembly

NOTE: The rear chassis assembly is a cold-service component that can be replaced only by authorized service personnel.

1. Power down the server.

2. Go to the rear of the server and remove the following components from the rear chassis subassembly:

- All five fans

- All express modules or filler panels. Make note of the slots for each express module or filler panel so that you can install them into the same slots in the replacement rear chassis subassembly.

- Rear I/O module.

3. Go to the front of the server and remove the following components:

- Remove or slide out PM1/PM2.
- Remove or slide out Main Module.
- Remove or slide out all 4 power supplies.

4. You will install these components into the replacement rear chassis subassembly once you have replaced the faulty subassembly.

5. Locate the four green mounting screws for the rear chassis subassembly.

6. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the four screws that secure the rear chassis subassembly to the system.

7. Slide the rear chassis subassembly out and away from the server.

Install the Rear Chassis Assembly:

The rear chassis subassembly snaps into place with an audible “click.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note - If the rear chassis subassembly does not click into place, remove the subassembly and ensure that the flexible LED assembly is seated correctly.

1. Ensure that the rear chassis subassembly is correctly and evenly seated inside the server chassis.

2. Check the lower edge of the subassembly to ensure that the subassembly is seated all the way inside the server chassis.

3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, tighten the four green screws to secure the rear chassis subassembly in the server. Tighten the screws in the following order:

   Lower right screw.

   Upper left screw.

   Upper right screw.

   Lower left screw.

4. Install the following components back into the rear of the server:

- All five fans

- All express modules or filler panels. Verify that you are installing the express modules back in their original slots using the notes that you took when removing the cards from the slots earlier.

- Rear I/O module

5. Install the following components back into the front of the server:

-  PM1/PM2.

- Main Module

- Power Supplies

- Power on the server.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Note:Replacement of the Rear Chassis Sub Assembly requires that the serial number be updated on the replacement, please contact Oracle Support.

Oracle Support can perform this activity remotely via shared shell / Webex / Oracle Beehive, otherwise it will need to be performed by an Oracle/Partner FSE)
