Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Field Engineer/Administrator will want to be familiar with Qlogic switch SFP's
TIME ESTIMATE: 5 minutes
NOTE: Less than 5 minutes per SFP
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: An SFP has failed or is suspected faulty and needs replacement.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The SFP transceivers can be removed and replaced while the switch is operating without damaging the switch or the transceiver. However, transmission on the
affected port will be interrupted until the transceiver installed.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
Make note of cable that is attached to faulty switch port SFP. Disconnect cable.
To remove a transceiver, gently press the transceiver into the port to release the tension, then pull on the release tab or lever and remove the transceiver. Different transceiver manufacturers have different release mechanisms. Consult the
documentation for your transceiver. To install, insert the transceiver into the port and gently press until it snaps in place.
Reconnect cable to newly installed switch port SFP
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?: No actions needed.
PARTS NOTE: Qlogic or Qlogic supported SFP's are required.
