How to Remove and Replace a Lithium Battery Module on a Sun StorageTek SAS RAID HBA in a Netra X4250 and a Netra X4450

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty SAS HBA Battery Module
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Follow standard ESD procedures

1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords from power supplies.

2. Remove the top cover.

3. Locate the SAS HBA PCIe card with the Battery Module to be removed and its corresponding riser.It may be necessary to remove the PCI mezzanine to locate the affected SAS card HBA on the Netra X4250.

 - Removing the PCI Mezzanine

       a. Remove PCI cards from PCI mezzanine, place in order on antistatic mat
       b. Disconnect the PCI mezzanine cable
       c. Use a No. 2 Philips screwdriver to loosen the four green captive screws securing the PCI mezzanine
       d. Lift the PCI mezzanine up and out
       e. Lift the PCI mezzanine away from the chassis and place it on an antistatic mat

4. Label and make note of the of where PCIe cards and cabling is installed.

5. Unplug data cables from the PCIe card to be removed.

6. Remove the riser board.

7. Carefully remove the PCIe card from the riser board connector.

8. Take the Battery out of the packaging and set it on the packing foam.

9.Remove the three retaining nuts on the top of the HBA Battery module.

  Remove the battery.

10.Fit the new battery.

   Line up the BBU connector on the BBU module with the connector on the HBA.Gently press down on the right edge of the BBU module until the connectors click into place.

   Refit the three retaining nuts.Do not over-tighten the nuts.

10. Reinstall the PCIe card into the PCIe riser connector.

11. Reinstall the riser board: Slide the riser back until it seats in its slot in the rear panel. Tighten the captive No. 2 Phillips screw securing the riser to the motherboard.

      Refit the PCI mezzanine if removed.

12. Re-connect the cables.

13. Replace the main cover.

14. Slide the server into the rack.

15. Re-connect the power cords.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
