Goal

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in the My Oracle Support Community - Disk Storage ZFS Storage Appliance

If one loses the administrative password of the ILOM (SP) of his 7x10 or 7x20 ZFS Storage Appliance, there is no longer the possibility to access the system from the SP console.

Access to the SP is very important during calamities (for example when BUI or CLI access is no longer possible) and during firmware updates.

The SP can be normally reached via a serial port (SER MGT) or a network port (NET MGT, ssh) on the rear of the system.

Solution

Initially, an attempt should be made to reset the appliance 'root' and ILOM passwords from the ZFS-SA CLI:

        > configuration users select root set initial_password=<NEW_PASSWORD>
        initial_password = ******** (uncommitted)
        commit

If the above procedure does not succeed, continue ...

The recovery of a lost ILOM / SP root password requires a special procedure for which you need assistance of a Field Engineer. Please open a Service Request with Oracle Support.

Please be prepared that the procedure the Field Engineer will follow requires the system to be taken down. The Field Engineer must have physical access to the system.

PLEASE NOTE: The following links are to content on the Storage-TSC Internal NAS wiki.  If you do not have the appropriate permissions to access this wiki, the links will fail (please contact Storage-TSC NAS for assistance).

For 7x10 systems the Field Engineer should use the procedure described in document https://stbeehive.oracle.com/teamcollab/wiki/AmberRoadSupport:Resetting+the+root+password+on+a+Sun+Storage+7000+Series+System

For 7x20 systems the Field Engineer should use the procedure described in document https://stbeehive.oracle.com/teamcollab/wiki/AmberRoadSupport:Resetting+the+Service+Processor+Password+for+7x20+arrays
