ESD Caution:
  • Circuit boards and drives contain electronic components that are  extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ordinary amounts of static electricity from clothing or the work environment can destroy the components located on these boards. Do not touch the components along their connector edges.
  • Use a Antistatic Wrist strap. Attach one end of the strap to your wrist and the other end to the chassis, depending on what type of strap you use, with the adhesive end or the metal plug.
  • Use an Antistatic Mat. Place ESD-sensitive components such as motherboards, memory, and other PCBs on an antistatic mat.

Contamination Caution:

  • Dust particles of packaging material are number one cause of datacenter contamination. Make sure to remove all packaging material, up to the ESD safe
  • packaging material, while still being outside the datacenter.

Caution – Danger of electrocution: AC circuits in the server share current. Remove all sources of AC current from the server.

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Mx-32 Product Training/Experience

TASK COMPLEXITY: 4

TIME ESTIMATE: 300 minutes COLD replacement

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

Physical Domains must be shut down. Server must be powered off.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove a Cabled Lower Bus Bar Assembly

1. Halt and power down the server.

-> stop /System

Caution – Danger of electrocution: AC circuits in the server share current. Remove all sources of AC current from the server.

Remove AC Power from the server.

2. Remove the front filler panel

3. Remove the upper fan cage.

M5-32 How to Replace a Faulty Upper Fan Cage Assembly

4. Unlock the I/O data cables from the cabled lower bus bars assembly.

There are two metal locking levers on the I/O data cable. The metal locking levers push against plastic locking tabs on the cabled lower bus bars assembly.

a. Push up slightly on the plastic locking tab, then pull down a metal lever.
b. Repeat to unlock the second lever.

5. Remove the T20 Torx screws that hold the upper ends of the red and black power cables to the bus bar assembly

Note – Take care not to drop the screws. These are not captive screws.

6. Detach the lower section of the cabled lower bus bars assembly:

Loosen two captive T20 Torx screws that hold the plastic housing of the cabled lower bus bars assembly to the midplane, then pull the assembly out of the midplane.

Note – Do not place screws or other loose hardware on the “shelves” of the midplane. Small items can easily fall inside the cabinet.

Install a Cabled Lower Bus Bar Assembly

Note – Do not remove the protective plastic covers from the connectors on the cable until you are ready to plug a cable connector into a socket.

1. Install the plastic block of the cabled lower bus bars assembly.

a. Remove the plastic cover from the cable assembly.
Do not discard the plastic cover. Covers will be returned to Oracle

b. Insert the cable assembly into the socket on the midplane.

Note – The cable connectors in the plastic block are keyed with flat tops. Align the tops in the plastic block to make it easier to insert the block in the midplane connector.

If the block does not insert easily, twist the individual cable ends so that the flat portions of the cable ends are all aligned and facing up.

c. Tighten the captive T20 Torx screws to lock the cable assembly in place.

2. Use 12 T10 Torx screws to connect the six upper ends of the power cables to the bus bars.

3. Install the upper fan cage.

4. Install the front filler panel.

5. Restart the server.

    a) Reconnect AC Power to server

    b) Momentarily press the On/Standby button on the front LED panel.

6. Return the replaced component to Oracle.

Place plastic cover(s) on the connectors of the component. Also return any extra covers that were included with the replacement component.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
