Note: This document provides only high level recommendations to better assure success of the I/O data cable replacement. The detailed procedures for removal and replacement of the cable must be consulted in the SPARC M5-32 and SPARC M6-32 Servers Service Manual located at: Sparc M5-32 Documentation . Make certain the latest version of the Service Manual is available. Detailed replacement steps with illustrations are provided. Do not conduct this procedure without the Service Manual.
Servicing the I/O Data Cable
Caution – This component must be serviced only by a trained service technician.
Remove an I/O Data Cable
NOTE: DO NOT TWIST THE CABLE! Caution – Use an antistatic mat to protect the cable from ESD damage.
Caution – Avoid excessive bending of the cable. Repeated bending of the cable can break wiring to individual connector pins. 3. After the inspection, place the connector covers back on the connectors. 4. Continue the cable removal steps as per the Service Manual procedure labeled 'Remove an I/O Data Cable'. Caution – When removing an IO data cable watch for loose guide pins. There is a small risk some of the guide pins on the cable end may have become loose during original installation and could fall into the machine during removal. Make certain all guide pins are in place on the removed cable.
Install an I/O Data CableCaution – Minimize all flexing and twisting of the new I/O Data Cable Assembly during installation -- it may damage the cable.
