Steps for the customer to update the firmware on the SL24/48 Tape drive(s).

Goal

How to upgrade the firmware / Microcode on the drive.

Solution

The following documents provided instructions on how to update the Library code:

Document : 1372168.1 - How to Upgrade Firmware in SL48 Library

Please use MOS Document 1539632.1 to locate the code(s).

How To Download Tape Drive, Library Firmware and Installation Tools from My Oracle Support [ID 1539632.1]

The process for the drive(s) code is as follows

Note: please offline the SL24/48 from the backup software before this is done and stop all jobs.

Login to the SL24/48 BUI via admin account
Go to the Support tab.
Go to the Firmware tab.
Use Second option to upgrade drive firmware (only select 1 drive at a time, if multiple are present).
Browse to the file and select the drive number
Click update
The drive will reboot and be ready.
Follow process 4 - 7 for remaining drives.

Note: a stop and re-start of the backup application may also be needed.
