Pillar Axiom MaxRep: How to upgrade MaxRep Engines from 2.00.0x to 2.00.05.

Upgrade from any version of 2.00.0x to 2.00.05

Prerequisite: the MaxRep Engine needs to be on R2 (see KM 1453131.1 to upgrade to R2 if you are on R1; but it is recommended instead to reimage the Engine using the MaxRep R2 ISO and follow the Best Practices document).  Axioms must be on 05.03.06 (minimum) and 05.03.09 to replicate LUNs used in MSCS (Windows Clusters).

It is recommended to have all the pairs on all the Protection Plans in Diff Sync. Do not pause the replications.

The easiest way to verify the MaxRep version is to log on to the MaxRep GUI, go to the Monitor tab (default) and see the version on the top left corner (example: v2.00.03.GA.2077).

For Asynchronous without HA, start to upgrade the Primary Replication Engine (as mentioned on the 2.00.05 Release Notes Update) and then do the Secondary Engine. By Primary Engine we mean the Engine with the IP address that is used to administer the MaxRep Engine (it is the Control Service).

For Synchronous with HA, install the upgrade on the Passive Engine first and then upgrade the Active Engine.

Do not choose to reboot the MaxRep Engine(s) if you are prompted to do so (even if you are doing a new install of MaxRep), this can be done after applying the HotFixes for 02.00.05 (see KM 1914642.1 to complete the updates).

Ask the customer to download p14645704_20005_Generic.zip (MaxRep 2.00.05): patch 14645704, the password needs to be retrieved from ARU.

Connect to the Engines using WinSCP p14645704_20005_Generic.zip: under the /root folder, create a subfolder called MaxRep_Upgrade_2.00.05 and upload the file on that directory.

Ssh to the first Engine (based on the environment):

[Follow the installation script instructions; this will install all the missing patches up to 2.00.05]

Do not reboot at the end of the upgrade (that can be done after applying the HotFixes and save you some time).

Repeat the same steps to upgrade the other Replication Engine.

Log on to the Primary Engine, you should see v2.00.05.GA.2551 on the top left of the GUI.

You can now follow KM 1914642.1 to update 02.00.05 with the latest HotFixes.
