Goal

SL8500 - How to Remove and Replace a CAP (Cartridge Access Port) Motor Assembly in Library

Solution

 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Hardware knowledge of the SL8500 library.

   TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

   TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  It has been determined that the CAP CArtridge Access Port is no longer functioning properly.

   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: CAP needs to be offline to the host and library.  SSD (Service Safety Door) needs to be engaged.

   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Refer to the SL8500 Service Manual for complete instructions for the removal/replacement of the Cartridge Access Port.  This includes pictures and any warnings.

Removal:

1. Open the library right front door
2. Disconnect the in-line connector closest to the CAP motor assembly.
3. Remove two T15 screws securing the CAP motor assembly
4. Lift the CAP Motor Assembly up and off the CAP.

Replacement :

1. Position the replacement CAP motor assembly onto the CAP, with the mounting plate locator pins engaged
2. Insert and tighten two T15 screws to secure the CAP motor assembly to the CAP
3. Connect the CAP motor assembly in-line connector to the cable assembly
4. Close the library door
5. Perform " CAP assembly Verification"

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Close the main door, disable SSD and bring CAP online to the library.
