Goal

The purpose of this document is to describe how to perform a forced upgrade in R5.x using the GUI

If you still have questions after reading this article,  go to the  My Oracle Support Community - Disk Storage Pillar Axiom System

Release 5.x does not require the use of cli for forcing upgrades, all necessary options are available to any support level account.

The default support accounts are "administrator" and "pillar". The simplest, and recommended forced update options are to select every upgrade override unless otherwise advised by a product expert or sustaining engineer.

Forced Upgrades are Disruptive. All host I/O will be interrupted.

Solution

Performing the Upgrade

  1.  Begin by logging into the GUI as "pillar" or "administrator"

  2. Go to the Support tab and select the Software Modules screen

  3. Select the Upload Software Package button to begin the software upload

  4. Select the ". . ." button to locate the upgrade package file

  5. Select the upgrade RPM (Redhat Packet Manager) file using the file browser and press "Open" to upload the file

  6. After the Staging has completed, put your cursor on the right side of the Software Modules Screen and right-click to select the "Update Software" menu

  7. Select every override option: Restart and update software, Ignore compatibility, Shutdown Slammer, Ignore hardware status, Ignore system alerts, Ignore current requests, and Override failed software update. With all of these options selected, you should not have any warnings displayed below these options

    Press OK to continue

  8. Confirm the Software Update. Press "Yes" to continue

  9. Confirm the next Software Update, that the Pilot will lose access. Press "Yes" to continue

  10. Confirm the Software Override. Press "Yes" to continue the update. This will begin the software update
