ESD Caution:
- Circuit boards and drives contain electronic components that are extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ordinary amounts of static electricity from clothing or the work environment can destroy the components located on these boards. Do not touch the components along their connector edges.
- Use a Antistatic Wrist strap. Attach one end of the strap to your wrist and the other end to the chassis, depending on what type of strap you use, with the adhesive end or the metal plug.
- Use an Antistatic Mat. Place ESD-sensitive components such as motherboards, memory, and other PCBs on an antistatic mat.
Contamination Caution:
- Dust particles of packaging material are number one cause of datacenter contamination. Make sure to remove all packaging material, up to the ESD safe packaging material, while still being outside the datacenter.

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Mx-32 Product Training/Experience
TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : EMS power LED must be extinguished to safely remove the component
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. At the rear of the server, locate the target EMS and press the ATTN button on the EMS panel. The EMS’s Power OK LED should go off, indicating that the EMS is ready to be removed.
NOTES:
- The ATTN button will only function if Solaris is running in the domain which owns the EMS card.
- EMS can only be offlined via the ATTN button if the network ports are configured with IPMP and HDD have redundant available paths. See Doc ID 2167305.1
- Do NOT remove an EMS unless the green power OK LED is extinguished. Removing a powered EMS will panic the domain.
- If the ATTN button fails to extinguish the green power OK LED, the sysadmin will either need to take manual offline actions or stop the domain.
2. Use an antistatic wrist strap to protect the equipment from ESD damage.
3. Label and remove cables from the EMS.
4. Remove the EMS:
a. Press the end of the plastic locking handle and swing the end of the extraction lever out 90 degrees.
b. Pull the EMS out of the slot.
5. Install the replacement EMS.
a. Use an antistatic wrist strap to protect the equipment from ESD damage.
b. Swing the end of the extraction lever out 90 degrees.
c. Insert the EMS in the slot and push it until the extraction lever touches the front of the slot and begins to swing shut.
d. Close the extraction lever until the plastic locking handle snaps into place.
6. Reattach cables that were removed during the EMS removal steps.
7. Press the ATTN button on the EMS to reconfigure the EMS into the PDomain.
8. Return the replaced component to Oracle.
9. Prepare the faulted EMS outside the datacenter for return to Oracle.
