Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure
TIME ESTIMATE: 20 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
PCI Card or Riser has failed.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Maintenance work is performed while the physical partition to which the target CRU belongs is powered off and the input power of the cabinet on which the target CRU is mounted is off (power cord is disconnected).
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?:
Conduct an orderly shutdown of the system software and the PPAR
XSCF> poweroff -p 0
Replacing the PCI card
1. Verify the ppar has been shutdown with
XSCF> showboards -a
2. Remove all power cords from the M10-1
3. Disconnect all the cables connected to the PCI card to be replaced.
Note - Write down the connection positions for the cables before removing them to restore them correctly.
4. Pull out the cabinet from the rack.
5. Open the fan cover.
6. Remove the upper cover.
7. Remove PCI Express RISER Cartridge containing the bad PCI card
8. Carefully remove the PCI card from the RISER
9. Carefully install the PCI card DON'T FORCE IT
10. Install the PCI RISSER back onto motherboard.
11. Install the upper cover
12. Install the fan cover
13. Restore the cabinet to the rack
14. Reconnect the cables to the PCI card
15. Reconnect the power cords to the M10-1
16. Verify the replacement with:
XSCF> showstatus
XSCF> showhardconf -M
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
Check for full functionality. Card Specific - Refer to specific PCI Card manuals for additional steps as needed.
PARTS NOTE:
Note the following points when removing PCI cards.
■ When removing the PCI card, install the filler unit of the PCI card after removing the PCI card from the PCI riser and install it on the motherboard unit.
The filler unit of the PCI card is easily removed. Be careful not to drop it.
