FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Failed power supply
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Given the array comes with a power redundancy feature, no special care is needed prior to this operation.Confirm alternate power supply is working OK
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Confirm faulted power supply (PS) by checking LED (no LED or an amber light) , position (Left or right):
PSU 0 (left) PSU1 (right)
Healthy power supply has green solid LED from the rear view.
If the SUNWsscs package is installed, you may check the sccli command:
sccli> show fru

Name: AC_POWER_SUPPLY
Description: SE3120 AC PWR SUPPLY/FAN MOD
Part Number: 370-5638
Serial Number: 000236
Revision: 01
Manufacturing Date: Tue Jul 8 22:14:33 2003
Manufacturing Location: Irvine California, USA
Manufacturer JEDEC ID: 0x048F
FRU Location: 1U AC PSU SLOT #0 (LEFT)
Chassis Serial Number: 006498
FRU Status: Fault
2. Verify type of power source (AC or DC) available and type of power supply (AC or DC) received.
3. If AC: Turn off the power, and then remove the AC cord locks (if applicable) and the power cable.
If DC: Turn off the power and remove the power cable.
4. Turn the thumbscrew at the top of the power supply latch counterclockwise until the thumbscrew is disengaged from the power supply.
5. Pull the latch forward about 90 degrees to disconnect the power supply/fan module from the midplane.
6. Pull the power supply/fan module out of the chassis.
7. Slide the new module into the fan and power supply slot.
8. Push the latch back so that the power supply is fully inserted into the chassis.
9. Turn the thumbscrew at the top of the power supply latch clockwise until it is finger-tight, to secure the module.
Note - To ensure that a thumbscrew is finger-tight, tighten it with a screwdriver and then loosen the thumbscrew counterclockwise a quarter-turn.
If the PS is DC: Connect the DC power cable to the DC source.
Note - Use only DC power cables provided with the array.
Check the DC cable part number and wire labels carefully before connecting the cable to the source.
Extend the length of the DC power cable as needed, strip the last 1/4-inch of the cable, insert it into a provided Panduit tube, and crimp the tube.
10. If the PS is AC: Attach the power cable and reinstall the AC cord locks if applicable.
If the PS is DC: Attach the power cable to the array.
11. Turn the power on.
12. Optional: Check the status of the new PS using the sccli command show fru.
