ESD Caution:
  • Circuit boards and drives contain electronic components that are  extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ordinary amounts of static electricity from clothing or the work environment can destroy the components located on these boards. Do not touch the components along their connector edges.
  • Use a Antistatic Wrist strap. Attach one end of the strap to your wrist and the other end to the chassis, depending on what type of strap you use, with the adhesive end or the metal plug.
  • Use an Antistatic Mat. Place ESD-sensitive components such as motherboards, memory, and other PCBs on an antistatic mat.

 

Contamination Caution:
  • Dust particles of packaging material are number one cause of datacenter contamination. Make sure to remove all packaging material, up to the ESD safe packaging material, while still being outside the datacenter.

Note: Until Further notice Mx-32 Part 7321272 that have GSAP 6920 label must
be submitted through the CPAS 
process.  7321272 without the GSAP 6920 label
should not be CPASed.  No other PSU part numbers should be CPASed.

Removing a Power Supply

Caution – Do not remove more than one power supply at a time, to avoid system shutdown.

1. Use one of these Oracle ILOM commands to display faulty components:
   -> show faulty
   -> show /System/Open_Problems

2. Locate the faulty power supply by is amber Fault LED

3. Use a grounding strap to protect the equipment from ESD damage

4. Unpack and prepare the replacement power supply.

  1. If there is a protective cover on the connectors, remove the cover.
  2. Inspect the connectors for possible damage.

5. Remove the faulty power supply from the server:

  1. Push the green release button up into the power supply handle.
  2. Pull the handle into the horizontal position.
  3. Pullout the power supply until it locks in place.

    The power power supply will stop before it is completely out of the slot.
    A label on the side of the power supply indicates how near the end the power supply is to the front of the opening

  4. Press the green release button on the right side of the power supply to unlock it.

    Caution –  A power supply weighs approximately 20 lbs (9 kg). Handle with caution.
     

    Caution – Do not allow the back of the power supply to drop. The connectors at the rear of the power supply will be damaged.


  5. Support the bottom of the power supply as you pull it completely out of the slot.

 

Installing a Power Supply

1. Use a grounding strap to protect the equipment from ESD damage.

2. If you have not already done so, inspect and prepare the replacement power supply.

    1. Remove any protective caps from the connectors on the power supply.
    2. Inspect the connectors for damage.
    3. Inspect the connection at the rear of the empty slot.

3. Insert the power supply

    1. Unlock the power supply handle by pulling it into the horizontal position.
    2. Push the power supply into the slot until the rear of the handle touches the cabinet and starts to close.

4. Verify all 12 power supplies have green OK led illuminated for normal operation.

Note –  An additional check to validate all 12 power supplies are functioning can be made by verifying good input and output power using the following ILOM command on the Active SP,

-> show -t -level 2 -format nowrap /System/Power/Power_Supplies input_power output_power

All 12 power supplies should indicate input_power is Present and output_power is greater than 0 watts.

If an inserted power supply appears DOA or the the OK led is blinking, press on the front of the power supply to assure the unit is fully seated into the slot.  Use the above command to verify good output power.

If the power supply is still faulted, clear the fault in the fault management shell (-> start /SP/faultmgmt/shell), remove the unit, leave it out for 60secs and re-insert it making certain the power supply is fully seated into the slot.  Use the above command to verify good output power.  output_power may take 2-3mins before being evident from the ILOM command above.

If the unit is still DOA contact a Domain Engineer (TSC) for further data collection.  Do not leave the site before the Domain Engineer has the opportunity to collect necessary Engineering requested debug data.

IMPORTANT: record in the field task any data and observations about DOA power supplies.  Make certain the recorded task information includes description of the LED status.

5. Return the faulted component to Oracle.

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

None.
