Goal

 M10-1 / M12-1 servers - Replacing a PSU backplane

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Engineer should be M10-1 / M12-1 trained

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN PRIOR TO PERFORMING THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

This activity can only be performed as a cold replacement. The customer will need to power down all domains prior to maintenance. All power cords should be removed from the server before beginning.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Getting to the PSU backplane

For additional details about any of the steps below, please see the M10-1 service manual.

    1. Remove all power supply units
    2. Pull out the cabinet from the rack
    3. Open the fan cover
    4. Remove the upper cover
    5. Remove the air duct, and the PSU backplane cover

Removing the PSU backplane

    1. Remove the 3 cables that connect the PSU backplane with the motherboard
    2. Loosen the captive screw that hold the PSU backplane in place
    3. Slide the PSU backplane towards the rear of the cabinet to release the 2 fixing pins and pop it loose.
    4. Lift the PSU backplane and disconnect the 4 cables

Installation of the PSU backplane

    1. Connect the 4 PSU backplane cables
    2. Check to make sure the fixing pins are lined up properly, and slide the PSU backplane into place on the pins
    3. Tighten the captive screw on the PSU backplane
    4. Connect the 3 cables that connect the PSU backplane to the motherboard

Re-install the remaining components

    1. Install the air duct and the PSU backplane cover
    2. Install the upper cover
    3. Close the fan cover
    4. Slide the cabinet into the rack
    5. Install and connect all power supply units

Confirm that there is no problem with the memory after the maintenance
     XSCF> showstatus
     XSCF> showhardconf -M
Start the system.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Check for all the domains are up and running fine
