WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Engineer should be M10-1 trained

TIME ESTIMATE: 20 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:


WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN PRIOR TO PERFORMING THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

This activity can be performed as either an active/hot replacement or a cold replacement.

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

The customer is not required to perform a system shutdown unless opting for 'Cold Replacement'

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Active Replacement:

1) Log in to XSCF and execute the replacefru command. ( Must have fieldeng permissions )

2) Select PSU.

3) Select the number of the faulted PSU.

4) Perform the operation according to the instructions displayed in the maintenance menu

Note: See 'Physical removal of the power supply' below

5) Once the replacement is complete check the status to ensure no further fru's are in degraded or faulted status.

Physical removal of the power supply

  1. Release the cable management arm on the bad PSU by pressing the arm tab toward the exterior of the cabinet

  2. Remove the power cords from the bad PSU

  3. While pushing the lever on the PSU, grab the handle and slide the PSU out of the chassis while supporting it from underneath.

Physical installation of the power supply

  1. Check to see if the PSU shipped with a temporary protective covering over its connectors. It so, remove the covering.

  2. Support the power supply from underneath, and slide it into the chassis firmly but not forcefully

  3. Connect the power cords

  4. Ensure the cable management arm is in place properly

Cold Replacement

Other than powering down the server, there are no special steps for cold replacement. Once the server has been powered down, perform the physical removal and physical installation procedures as outlined above

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

No additional work is required
