Goal CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: How to replace the External Crossbar backplane in a Crossbar box SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?) Field training in M10-4S servers TASK COMPLEXITY: 4 Time Estimate: 90 minutes FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: All the power cords must be disconnected to completely cut the power to the server. If there are any physical partitions (PPARs) in operation, the Crossbar Box cannot be powered off. All PPARs must be powered off, and the Crossbar box must be completely shut down. 1. If the target Crossbar box is the master XSCF then switch the Master role to Standby. XSCF> switchscf -t Standby 2. Verify the physical partitions (PPARs) status with. XSCF> showpcl -a -v 3. Powering off the affected PPARs will. Shutdown logical domains. Shutdown the control domains. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Removing the External Crossbar backplane 1. Run XSCF> showpparstatus -a to verify the the PPARs are powered off. 2. Execute the XSCF> replacefru command to release the target Crossbar box from the system 3. Remove all power cords from the Power Supply units of the target Crossbar box Note - To completely shut down the system, all the power cords must be disconnected. There is a risk of electrical failure if the power cords are not disconnected. 4. Move the mode switches to standby on both the master and the standby cabinet. 5. Remove all XSCF connection cables and XSCF DUAL cables connected to the External Crossbar backplane. Note - Before disconnecting the cables take notes on the cable connection positions in order to reconnect the cables correctly. 6. Loosen two screws of the rear External Crossbar backplane and lower the right and left levers to release the External Crossbar backplane. 7. Hold the levers and partially pull out the External Crossbar backplane. 8. Support the External Crossbar backplane from the bottom with one hand and remove it carefully from the cabinet. Note - Place the removed External Crossbar backplane on a grounded antistatic ESD mat Installing the External Crossbar backplane 1. Reinstall the External Crossbar backplane 2. Connect the XSCF connection cables and XSCF DUAL cables to External Crossbar backplane. Note - Verify the cable connections with a XSCF> showlogs -V error after the Crossbar box is back in service 3. Connect all power cords to the power supply unit of the target Crossbar box. Note - In a dual power feed, be sure to connect the power cord to the original position correctly according to the notes written down before maintenance. 4. Once the Crossbar box is up, return it to service by completing the XSCF> replacefru command. 5. Power on the target physical partition(s). a.) Move the mode switches to locked on both the master and the standby cabinet. b.) Execute the showstatus command to confirm that there is no problem with the FRU after the maintenance. c.) Execute the showhardconf command to check the hardware configuration and the status of each component. d.) Execute the switchscf -t Active command to switch the standby XSCF to the master XSCF. e.) Execute the poweron - a command to power on the stopped PPARs. f.) Review the "showlogs -V error" output to confirm there are no cable errors.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Verify the status of all domains. PARTS NOTE: REFERENCE INFORMATION: Service Manual - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E38160_01
