ESD Caution:
  • Circuit boards and drives contain electronic components that are  extremely sensitive to static electricity. Ordinary amounts of static electricity from clothing or the work environment can destroy the components located on these boards. Do not touch the components along their connector edges.
  • Use a Antistatic Wrist strap. Attach one end of the strap to your wrist and the other end to the chassis, depending on what type of strap you use, with the adhesive end or the metal plug.
  • Use an Antistatic Mat. Place ESD-sensitive components such as motherboards, memory, and other PCBs on an antistatic mat.

Contamination Caution:
  • Dust particles of packaging material are number one cause of datacenter contamination. Make sure to remove all packaging material, up to the ESD safe packaging material, while still being outside the datacenter.

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Mx-32 Product Training/Experience

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

HOT replacement

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : n.a.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Turn on the Ready to Remove LED on the faulty IOB
  --> set /SYS/IOUx/IOBy prepare_to_remove_action = true

Note – All activity in the PDomain must be stopped before the I/O switch board can be removed. This affects the hard drives, I/O cards, and EMS modules associated with the I/O switch board.

Remove an I/O Switch Board

1.  Stop the PDomain that uses the I/O switch board
     a.) Determine to which DCU the IOB belongs by referring to the fault report
          --> show faulty

     b.) Determine which PDomain contains the DCU.
          --> show /System/DCUs/DCU_x host_assigned

     c.) Stop the specified PDomain:
          --> stop /Servers/PDomains/PDomain_y/HOST

4. Locate the faulty I/O switch board.

5. Use a grounding strap to protect the equipment from ESD damage.

6. Remove the faulty I/O switch board:
   a. Squeeze the locks on the extraction lever handles.

   b. Swing the extraction levers into the horizontal position.

   c. Pull the I/O switch board out of the slot.

Install an I/O Switch Board
   1. Use a grounding strap to protect the equipment from ESD damage.

   2. Open the extraction levers on the replacement I/O switch board to the horizontal position.

   3. Insert the I/O switch board and push it into the slot until the extraction levers start to close.

   4. Close the extraction levers fully to lock the I/O switch board.

   5. Restart the PDomain

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
