REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
A PCI Express (PCIe) card in a PCI Expansion Unit has Failed

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

A data backup is not a pre-requisite

Before replacing the FRU make sure that the following steps have been done:       Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1

WHAT ACTIONS NEED TO BE TAKEN:

NOTE: Pulling a card without properly unconfiguring the card from Solaris may cause the server to panic if doing an active replacement.

1. Identify the PCI card to be replaced.  PCI cards are numbered starting from 0 on the left (after the link card) to 11 on the right.
2. Verify that the card / cassette has been isolated from the OS. ( cfgadm -a should show disconnected in the receptacle column ).

If the card has not been isolated from the OS see the PCI Expansion Unit Service Manual, Chapter 7, and the Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1   for the steps to isolate the card and the PCI Expansion Unit.

3.  Label the cables and disconnect them from the PCI card.
4.  Squeeze the green levers together, lift up and pull out to unseat the cassette.
5.  Remove the cassette from the slot.
6.  Remove the Card from the Cassette.

        a. While pressing the cover stops, remove the cover.
        b. Loosen the single captive screw with a screwdriver.
        c. Remove the card from the cassette.

7.  Replace the card.

WHAT ACTIONS ARE NEEDED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

To restore the system to service follow the steps in the       Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1
