FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Fan backplane in a PCI Expansion Unit has Failed

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

A data backup is not a pre-requisite

Before replacing the FRU make sure the Customer has done the Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1     

 


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:


  1. Remove the power cords from the PCI Expansion Unit
  2. Pull out the following components halfway.
           a.  Power supply units
           b.  PCI Express (PCIe) card cassette
  3. Remove the front cover.
  4. Remove all the fan units.
  5. Loosen the two screws for the PCI tray and pull out the PCI tray slightly.
  6  Hold the PCI tray with both hands and carefully remove it from the cabinet
  7. Remove the two cables connected to the Fan backplane.
  8. Loosen the one screw for the Fan backplane. Facing the front of the PCI tray, the screw is on the right side
  9. Slide the fan backplane to the right and adjust the groove of the fan backplane to guides (four places) to remove it.
10. Install the Fan backplane on the PCI tray.
11. Hold the PCI tray with both hands and carefully slid it into the cabinet
12. Tighten the two screws for the PCI tray
13. Install the removed components and those pulled half way out
14. Restore the power to the PCI Expansion Unit back


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:


The Customer needs to restore the system to service by following the steps in the Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1
