FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Fan Unit in a PCI Expansion Unit has Failed

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

A data backup is not a pre-requisite

Before replacing the FRU make sure the Customer has done the Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1     


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:


Note for Active/hot maintenance Execute the ioxadm command to stop the Fan Unit under maintenance. In the following example, FAN#0 in PCIBOX#12B4 is specified.

    XSCF> ioxadm poweroff PCIBOX#12B4/FAN#0

1. Remove the front cover
2. Press the handle of the Fan Unit under maintenance to the left side and remove the Fan Unit from the slot. Fan Units are labeled 0, 1 and 2 with 0 being on the left
3. Insert the replacement Fan Unit in the slot

Note for Active/hot maintenance use the ioxadm command to power on the Fan Unit under maintenance. In the following example, the FAN#0 of PCIBOX#12B4 is specified.

   XSCF> ioxadm poweron PCIBOX#12B4/FAN#0



OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:


The Customer needs to restore the system to service by following the steps in the Preliminary steps before FRU replacement in a PCI Expansion Unit: Doc Id. 1528544.1
