How to remove / replace a GBIC / SFP connector / module from a tape drive.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
   WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: Familiar with 9840 / T10000 tape drives
   TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
   TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SFP / GIBC moduled has been determined to be defective and requires replacement.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: Drive must be offline to the host and library.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Remove and retain the interface port small form-factor pluggable (SFP) Modules.

a. Rotate the release lever to the straight-out position.

b. Pull the module out of the drive interface port.

c. Repeat steps a and b for the second port.

Reverse the process to insert the modules.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?: Bring drive back online to the library and host.
