Goal

LTO tapes cartridges can be Entered Backward / Upside Down.

Solution

The SL3000, like the SL8500, is aware of both an upside down tape and tapes without labels (backward).  When the library finds a tape like this in a CAP it notifies the library manager (ACSLS/HSC/3rd Party Software) that the tape has a label problem.  HSC or ACSLS will leave the tape in the CAP and request that the CAP be emptied by the operator.  This will prevent an unlabeled, backward or upside down tape from being entered.

However, in the case of the SL3000 running in FC/SCSI mode and controlled with a 3rd party library manager (eg Netbackup), problem tapes can be entered.  If the controlling software chooses to ignore the state of the cartridge it can tell the robot to enter the tape into the library in spite of the bad label status. The customer must not override blank label warning messages issued from the library control software.
