 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)

Field training in M10-1 Server

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

Time Estimate: 15 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:  The FAN unit can be replaced Active/Hot or Inactive/Cold

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Enable FAN Unit for replacement ( Follow either the  Active/Hot or Inactive/Cold methods).

Active/Hot maintenance

1.  Log into XSCF - to identify the FAN target to be replaced
     XSCF> showlogs error

2.  Issue the replacfru command to initiate the replacement process
     XSCF> replacefru

3.  Select input [1] for FAN Unit replacement
4.  Select input [#] for the FAN target to be replaced
5.  Select [r] to confirm the FAN target to be replaced
6.  confirm that the CHECK LED is blinking on the target FAN FRU to be replaced
7.  IF CHECK LED on the target FAN is blinking then proceed to Removing the FAN Unit Section.

Inactive/Cold (System Stopped) maintenance

1.  Log into XSCF - to identify the FAN target to be replaced
     XSCF> showlogs error

2.  stop the server using the poweroff -a command.  Verify the POWER LED is off, and disconnect the power cords.
     XSCF> poweroff -a

Removing the FAN Unit

  1. Slide the server out from the equipment rack.
  2. Open the fan cover (Turn locking screw to the service position ( wrench ) Slide green button toward inside of the cabinet and lift fan cover forward.)
  3. Pinch the front and the back of the FAN unit at the same time and lift the target FAN unit vertically to remove it.  Place on a conductive mat.

Installing the FAN Unit

  1. Install the FAN unit vertically while aligning the connector on the back of the FAN unit with the connector on the motherboard unit.
  2. Push firmly to ensure it snaps into place.  Do not force.
  3. Close the fan cover (Turn locking screw to locked position).
  4. Slide the server into the equipment rack.

Reassembling the Server (Follow either the Active/Hot or Inactive/Cold methods).

Active/Hot maintenance

     1.  Return back to the operation of the replacefru command to install the FAN unit to the system.
     2.  Select input [f] when finished inserting the FAN Unit from the above section.
     3.  After FAN diagnostic tests complete verify FAN Unit status is NORMAL.
     4.  Select input [f] to FINISH the FAN unit replacement operation.
     5.  Select input [c] to CANCEL any further FRU replacements and close out of the replacefru command menu.
     6.  Confirm hardware fix by running the following commands:
          XSCF> showstatus
          XSCF> showhardconf

Inactive/Cold (System Stopped) maintenance

  1. Connect all the power cords to power outlets.
  2. Verify that the XSCF STANDBY LED on the operator panel is on.
  3. Turn the mode switch on the operator panel to the locked mode position.
  4. Log into the XSCF.
  5. Confirm hardware fix by running the following commands:

XSCF> showstatus
XSCF> showhardconf
XSCF> poweron -a


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE


WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Post work required to bring the system back online
