A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?: Removing the Motherboard 1. Power off the system, remove the system cover, and attach an antistatic wrist strap. Caution – Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components. Wear 2. Remove the motherboard as follows: a. Remove the power supply. d. Remove the following from the system: i. CPU module ii. CPU fan assembly vi. NVRAM/TOD with carrier vii. DIMMs i. Disconnect the external cables. ii. Using a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the seven screws securing the Caution – Handle the motherboard by the back panel or by the edges only. iii. Lift the motherboard from the chassis. iv. Place the motherboard on an antistatic mat. Note – It might be necessary to slide the motherboard toward the chassis front
Replacing the Motherboard Note – Jumpers JP3 and JP4 can be set to either RS-423 or RS-232 serial interface. Using long-nose pliers, set the motherboard serial port jumpers JP3 and JP4 Jumper Pins 1 + 2 Select Pins 2 + 3 Select Default Shunt on Pins Note – Motherboard jumpers are identified as JP. Jumper pins are located 2. Replace the motherboard as follows: a. Replace the motherboard as follows: Caution – Handle the motherboard by the back panel or the edges only. i.
