Goal

Learn how to determine if the IB Subnet Manager is running on Oracle Fabric Interconnect

Fix

Execute the command: show diagnostic sm-info

The following output shows that this IO Director chassis is running the IB subnet manager and it is the master instance of the IB subnet manager.

admin@dot[xsigo] show diagnostics sm-info

SM information:
- SM is running on dot
- SM Lid 1
- SM Guid 0x139702010001a1
- SM key 0x0
- SM priority 0
- SM State MASTER

To control the state of the IB subnet manager use the command:

set system is-subnet-manager [true/false/default]

The default behavior is for devices capable of providing the IB subnet manager function to negotiate with each other and elect a master IB subnet manager. Also, the true/false settings can be provided is more control over which device becomes the IB subnet manager is required.  In environments where two Oracle Fabric Interconnect chassis are setup in HA (high availability) configuration for redundancy (two seperate IB Fabrics), both Oracle Fabric Interconnects will negotiate as MASTER.

In meshed Fabric Environments where two Oracle Fabric Interconnect chassis are interconnected via IB to form a single large fabric, one Oracle Fabric Interconnect will negotiate as MASTER and the other Oracle Fabric Interconnect chassis will negotiate to STANDBY.
