GoalHow to Remove and Replace a Sun Blade 150 NVRAM ************************************************************** SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS: PROBLEM OVERVIEW: NVRAM Failure WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED: Removing the NVRAM/TOD 1. Power off the system, remove the system cover, and attach an antistatic wrist strap. Caution – Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components. Wear 2. Remove any PCI cards installed in PCI slots 1 and 3. Caution – Do not remove the NVRAM/TOD from the carrier. 4. Grasp the NVRAM/TOD carrier at each end and pull it straight up, gently 5. Place the NVRAM/TOD and carrier on an antistatic mat. Replacing the NVRAM/TOD 1. Replace the NVRAM/TOD as follows: a. Position the NVRAM/TOD carrier on the motherboard. Note – The carrier is keyed so that the NVRAM/TOD can be installed only one way. c. Push the NVRAM/TOD carrier into the socket until it is properly seated. 2. Replace any PCI card(s) removed from slots 1 and 3. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot system and verify functionality. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
