 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?: VSM6 trained, T4 server, Solaris 11
   TIME ESTIMATE:120 minutes

  • May be 60-120 minutes

   TASK COMPLEXITY: 3

TDX Card Replacement Steps Overview

  1. Check for fenced components and identify TDX location
  2. Shut down node and set for maintenance
  3. Replace component(s)
  4. Power system on into maintenance mode
  5. Clear FMA faults
  6. Validate and unfence component(s)
  7. Reboot the node into normal mode

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: How to replace TDX card in a VSM6 or VSM7 server.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

Prepare affected VSM6 or VSM7 server for servicing:

  1. Check with customer if RTD have dual path. If NO, you have to put RTD path offline for RTDs only attached to the node we need to stop.
  2. Refer to VSM6 or VSM7 Installation, Configuration and Service Guide.

NOTICE: If running VSM6 code level lower than 6.2 then use these newer GFR Instructions
Otherwise use the Installation, Configuration and Service Guide for the machine type (VSM6 or VSM7) and code level in use.

VSM6 Installation, Configuration and Service Guides

VSM7 Installation, Configuration and Service Guides

In the table of contents look for:
'Servicing VSM 6' or 'Servicing VSM 7',
'VSM 6 Guided FRU Replacement (GFR)' or 'VSM 7 Guided FRU Replacement (GFR)',
                                  TDC card.

  3. Follow the instructions in the Service Guide document.
Logon information:  ID = vsmadm (default password = vsm6admin).

CAUTION: Be careful to complete all steps.   The TDX replacement procedure does not end until you encounter the instructions for doing the GFR of the FC Card.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

        Test functionality of system:
        1. Run the Solaris "sudo fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ILOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
        2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
           * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
           * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Check that the node came up correctly in cluster with command:
