Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

How can I break a hardware RAID1 (IM: Integrated Mirror = mirror) volume on the Internal RAID controller, so that both sides of the mirror are left with identical data, eg. for the purposes of patching and rolling back to previous submirror if patching fails.

Fix

Breaking of a hardware RAID1 (IM: Integrated Mirror = mirror) volume on the Internal RAID controller is not supported (only supported way is to delete and create it, which will destroy the data).

If you are wanting to break the mirror for the purposes of patching and then rolling back to the previous unpatched copy if the patching fails it is suggested you look at other options, eg. the use of Live Upgrade which can achieve this using boot environments.
