Solution

The default methodology has always been via the suninstallation assistant

For example on an x4150

Patch 10371988: X4150 SW 3.2.0 - Sun_Installation_Assistant

You can just mount it to the ILOM java KVM and boot from the ISO it will prompt you for 2-3 questions and that would be it.

You can locate full history patches for your platform by doing the simple steps.

1. Login to MyOracleSupport

2. Navigate to the patches and updates pane

3. Product or family

4. Product is -> just type the few letter like " x4150 " and this will narrow down the products

5. Release is : select the last 3-4 just to make sure as some SW releases are ilom only and not included the full software stack with tools and drivers and installation assistant.
