Goal

The Goal of this Knowledge Document is to help customer update Rack Master Serial Number over WEBX /OWC (TSE - Remote Assistance) , This would enhance Remote Resolution and Time To Resolve of the Service Request.

Solution

Verify that the R-MSN (Rack Master Serial Number) is set correctly, using any of the below methods.

1. Manual inspection as mentioned above Rack's R-MSN is located on the TOP-LEFT Side wall [viewed from rear ] Inside the rack on the rear of the Chassis.

2. Via ipmi / ilom shell commands

a. ipmitool sunoem cli 'show /SP system_identifier

b. -> show /SP

If R-MSN is set correctly, then Save it into a file, using the below command.

[root@db01 firstconf]# dcli -l root -g half "ipmitool sunoem cli 'show /SP system_identifier' " > /tmp/show-rack-csn.out

If the R-MSN is incorrect, It can be set by following the below procedure

Enter the following command on one line, with no break

[root@db01 firstconf]# dcli -l root -g half "ipmitool sunoem cli' set /SP system_identifier="\"Exadata Database Machine X3-2 1033AK213A\""'" > /tmp/set-rack-csn.out

#Note -g is the group file name

Note that the system_identifier has a 40 character limit, so if too much text is entered between Machine and the end of the serial number for the R-MSN value,
you will receive a message stating "set: invalid property value" error.

Sample Command Usage:

[root@u1hiltdb01 ~]# dcli -l root -g dbs_group "ipmitool sunoem cli 'set /SP system_identifier="\"Exadata Database Machine X3-2 AK00066325\""'"

[root@u1hiltdb01 ~]# dcli -l root -g main_cell_group "ipmitool sunoem cli 'set /SP system_identifier="\"Exadata Database Machine X3-2 AK00066325\""'"
