Answers whether Oracle Fabric Directors supports IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface).

Solution

Oracle Fabric Director IPMI design

IPMI support in Oracle Fabric Directors is implemented by using miniBMC chip from Winbond which supports IPMI protocol v1.2. Unfortunately, this chip is EOL (end of life).

All recently manufactured Oracle Fabric Directors do not include IPMI support at all. MiniBMC is electrically connected only to ethernet management port.

No Oracle Fabric Director applications have access to this chip nor are able to provision it. Therefore IPMI configuration is not saved in the Oracle Fabric Director database.

If IPMI configuration is included in XgOS config database.
- IPMI configuration stored in its own database.

To configure IPMI, user has to run ipmitool from any server (PC) connected to same subnet as Oracle Fabric Director management port.
