Goal

Understand two methods used for finding the HCA Firmware version on ESX/ESXi hosts

Solution

1st method

Any one of the ports under XCPM folder should give you the Device FW version - On the ESXi host as user root, run command below:

#cat /proc/driver/xscore/xcpm/ports/<2c903000f3f20>

Device name: mlx4_0

Device FW Version: 2.9.1000

Port: 2

Port GUID: 0x2c903000f3f20

Port PhysState: 5: Link Up

Port State: PORT_ACTIVE

Port LID: 28

Port SM LID: 1

Port MTU: 4 (2048)

Port Link Layer: Infiniband

Port XDS LID: 24

Port XDS GUID: 0x139702010002f1

2nd method

It is 2.9.1000 (3E8 in HEX == 1000 in Decimal)
